Hyperbaric oxygen in the treatment of cerebral hypoxia and anaerobic infections: experiences in Tallinn

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy involves intermittent inhalation of 100 % oxygen under a pressure exceeding 1 atmosphere. Although HBO has been used in medicine for more than a century, the role of HBO remains controversial. The mechanism of action of HBO therapy has become better understood over the last two decades and today physicians have a better grasp of its potential.
