French ministers accused of cover-up over AIDS blood scandal

Peculiarities of French law have been making it hard to bring three former socialist ministers before a court to answer allegations about their role in the scandal of HIV-contaminated blood products. Groups representing haemophiliacs infected by the blood-clotting products are outraged that it is taking so long to get at the truth.

At issue is how much former Prime Minister, Laurent Fabius, his health minister, Edmond Hervé and social affairs minister Georgina Dufoix knew of delays, back in 1985, in systematically screening blood for the AIDS virus and in replacing stocks of blood products with safe, heat-treated supplies.
