English summary: The use of butter and the risk of myocardial infarction
The recent scientific and public discussion around saturated fats, especially butter, and their health effects has resulted in uncertainty amongst Finnish consumers. Is butter really safe to use even on a daily basis? What about the recommendation on the use of unsaturated fats? The use of butter is currently increasing, and at the same time the total cholesterol values in the Finnish population have started to increase after a long-term downward trend. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of heavy use of butter on the risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in middle-aged Finnish men.
