Colombian malaria vaccine: the saga continues
Honours are not new to Manuel Elkin Patarroyo, father of the first vaccine to show some degree of protection against malaria. In his 30-year career, the Colombian biochemist and physician has racked up a total of 53 awards and prizes. Most are Colombian or Latin American, but in the last nine months, the Medal of the City of Edinburgh (UK) and two highly prized science awards, Germany's Robert Koch Prize and Spain's Principe de Asturias Prize, have put an international stamp on his claim to fame.
